Earth Day tends to make me think of allergies. Not that the world is so problematic that potential allergic reactions to the world are the first thing that come to mind. It just seems to be when I start to check in with myself and make sure that I am healthy. Earth Day in the middle of a pandemic is something different. Reports have shown many parts of the world bouncing back from the edge of disaster since we have been driving less, traveling less, harming the planet less? Are we as humans truly the biggest problem with the world?

Everything we do from recycling, reducing energy consumption and the like are helpful but, the toll on the planet that comes from our consumption of beef alone is a crazy contributing factor to air pollution for example. The last four years saw a President and Administration that prioritized dismantling environmental protections. Racism and discrimination also contribute to a less healthy world. It all connects.

So, what can we do to make the world a better place? How long have we kicked that question around? Well, first, we have to stop thinking that we are in this alone. It does take a village. That village can be a team of co-workers. It could be a group of friends. It could be family members. You and your partner. It could be me, myself and I. You. Making the world a better place starts with you. Whatever you think can make things better, do it. Start there. When we stop thinking about ourselves first, we will end up including ourselves in the process.

I mean, why wouldn’t you feel good, doing something to make someone else’s life better? Think about it now. And, think small to start. Just give it some thought. Let’s meet back here with some ideas. Ok? Ok…ok.
